Our Mary

Maria Berumen
Sept. 30, 1931 - May 5, 2008

Our Mary died this morning. She has been released from her pain and suffering. I am sure she was surrounded by her wonderful family. I know how much she loved them. Her sister, Consuelo, her nieces, Consuelo and Patty, and all of their family took such loving care of her.

Last Wednesday and Thursday, Judy and I went down to Douglas to get Teresa for Cameron's First Communion and Confirmation which was on Saturday. We also wanted to see Mary and tell her how much we love her. All of her family had come in to say good-bye. She was still so alert even though she was so weak. Seeing her laying in the bed looking so small and so sick was so difficult for me. When she saw me starting to cry, she pointed her finger at me, then wiped her face. She was telling me not to cry.

We stayed for several hours. I was able to sit by her bed and hold her hand. She kept squeezing my hand. She would turn and look at me and say "Sheila" and then smile. I am having a difficult time just writing this.

Judy told her that neither one of us would be who we are today if it wasn't for her. I couldn't agree more. She played such a prominent role in our formative years and such an important role in our lives.

Mary was a special lady who never asked for much out of life and gave so much to our family. I will always be grateful for all that she has given me and I will miss her so much!!

There is a P.S. to this post:

The baby in the picture is Ryan, Judy's son. Mary was dancing with him which is what she did with all of our babies. Ryan recently turned 15.

The second picture is Cecilia dancing with Mary at Teresa's Citizen of the Year Party. Mary loved all of the cousins, but I think Cecilia had a special place in Mary's heart.

Sheila, Judy, and Teresa....Please know our thoughts and prayers are with all of you as you face the sadness of your dear Mary's passing. As I was speaking with Teresa this past Saturday, I could just sense her concern and love for Mary. Mary was such a special part of the Scott family for so many years. We extend our sympathy to all of you and Mary's family.
Love....Tom and Sandra Sanders

I love the picture that you posted of Cecelia and Mary - you can see the love in Mary's eyes for her. That's the way that I remember her looking at all of us. Thank you for posting this mom, even though it was difficult for you (and us).
