94 Years Remembered in 94 Days-Post 31 (Dot and Ed's Wedding)

Yesterday (August 6) would have been the 78th wedding anniversary of my Aunt Dot and Uncle Ed Park.    Teresa dearly loved her sister, Dot, as did I.  And we were all really fond of Ed, too.   He was a great guy.

This is her wedding picture.   My mom was the maid of honor and our Uncle Matt was the best man.   Miriam Williams was the flower girl.   She was the sister of my mom and Teresa's dear friend, Liz Williams.  Miriam died as a young child.

When we were in Douglas, we found old newspaper articles and other memorabilia.   It is amazing.  I brought it home and want to use it for my blog and then get it to the different families.

Here is the article from the Douglas newspaper:

Miss Scott Is August Bride
Douglas Girl is Married to Edwin P. Park In Church Rites
Douglas, August 7. (Special to The Daily Citizen)--It was in the paper 78 years ago today.

Yesterday at high noon Miss Dorothea Kathleen Scott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E.A. Scott, became the bride of Edwin P. Park.  The marriage vows were exchanged in the Immaculate Conception church before altar hidden by banks of white blossoms and lighted by tall tapers.   In the background were great baskets of pink gladioli, palms and bowls of flowers.   Rev. F. B. Healy read the marriage vows.  He was assisted by the bride's brother and nephew, Billie Scott and Edward Scott, as servers.

Mrs. James Mahoney presided at the organ the guests assembled, Miss Mary Semolich sang "Because" and Bach-Gounod's "Ave Maria."

Given By Father
The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, chose her wedding gown white marquisette with lace insertions, made with long sleeves and a high neck, with the skirt falling in a slight train.  She wore a finger-tip tulle veil with Juliette cap and fastened with orange blossoms and carried a shower bouquet of white roses, white sweet peas and lilies of the valley.

Miss Scott chose her sister, Miss Margaret Scott, as her bridesmaid.  She wore  floor length frock of heaven blue chiffon with a shoulder length veil of the same shade.   Miriam Williams, small daughter of Mrs. Ralph Williams, served as flower girl and work a frock of pink organdy and carried a basket of pink rose petals.  The bride's mother wore blue print with matching accessories and a corsage of white gardenias.  Mrs. Park, mother of the groom, chose ashes of roses crepe with white accessories and a gardenia corsage.
Matthew Scott, of Phoenix, brother of the bride, attended the groom as best man.  Ushers were Tom Sanders, Frank Cummings, Stuart Krentz and Cornelius Reidy.

Luncheon Served
Immediately following the ceremony, a luncheon was served at the Gasden hotel forthe bridal party and the immediate members of the families.   A wedding cake, surrounded by low pink flowers, formed the centerpiece for the luncheon table.   After the luncheon, the bride and groom left by motor for Los Angeles and San Francisco.   The bride chose for traveling an ensemble of navy blue sheer with matching accessories.

Mrs. Park was graduated from the Loretto high school and has been a teller in the Bank of Douglas for several years.   Mr. Park, a graduate of the Douglas high school and the Arizona State Teachers' college at Flagstaff, is a member of the Douglas high school faculty.
(FYI-I wrote this just as it was printed in the newspaper article.)
