94 Years Remembered in 94 Days-Post 64 (My Award)

Here is another article that I found in the desk drawer in Douglas.  It touched my heart because I don't remember that it was published in the Dispatch.  I know my mom was the one who did this.    She wasn't always demonstrative in her love for me, but I know that she loved me so much and I know that she was proud of my accomplishments.   I think the one thing she would have been most proud of was me moving back to Douglas and being the Superintendent for DUSD and for living with Teresa for those five years.

Educator wins 'Tribune' honor

Gilbert Elementary School Principal, Sheila Rogers, daughter of Douglas councilwoman and vice-mayor Margaret Shannon received the 1994 Tribune Educational Leadership Award for administration in the Gilbert Unified School District.

Rogers is a native Arizonan, and graduated from Arizona State University and started teaching special education in 1971.  She later became a third-grade teacher at Patterson and Houston elementary schools before becoming a personnel intern in the administrative offices in 1987.  In 1989 she was named Gilbert Elementary principal.

The goal of the 1994 Educational Leadership Awards is to honor excellence in teaching and administration.   Nominations for the award were submitted by teachers, students, parents, administrators, and the general public. Nominees were then screened and selected by the participating school districts.   One winner in each category was selected for every 20,000 students in the participating school districts.

My mom and Teresa came up for the luncheon when I received this honor.   Many of my family here and friends were also there.

This article being in the Dispatch made me happy that my mom did this for me!
